The Baou is a limestone escarpment overlooking the coastal plain and the village of Saint-Jeannet. This position explains why exposure appears so quickly: the route starts near inhabited ground and then enters terrain where navigation or rope-handling mistakes have immediate consequences. The rock can also be polished by repeated passage or locally weakened by erosion.
A rappel is not limited to the spectacular moment of descent. It begins with a reliable anchor, a complete equipment check, protection of the rope from sharp edges and a plan for the exit. Beginners need training and supervision before entering a position where improvisation is no longer possible.
Chemin Jeannot is not an ordinary hike with a rope added at the end
The route combines an approach on foot, exposed rocky movement, sections where the hands become necessary and a rope descent. That mixture changes the consequences of mistakes. The page therefore does not turn the footage into a step-by-step climbing or abseiling lesson.

A rappel becomes critical when the system can no longer be easily reversed
The French dossier emphasises a simple principle without giving an operational rope tutorial: serious errors often occur once a manoeuvre has become difficult to undo. Rope length, attachment, braking setup, ends and the possibility of retreat all need competent checking before committing body weight.
Camera angle can hide part of a system, which is another reason the episode cannot serve as a complete technical demonstration. The footage can show how wind, communication and rope friction become real factors once a descent begins, but it cannot certify the setup for someone else.
Coastal proximity does not make the mountain environment benign
The Baou rises directly above populated coastal country, so towns and the Mediterranean remain visually close. That can create a false sense of security. The activity still takes place on steep limestone where sun, wind, loose stones and wet slabs can change the situation quickly.
A short line on a map can take much longer when rope work and careful movement are involved. Weather, daylight, water, turnaround options and the ability to abandon the objective are therefore more important than distance alone.
Editing cannot be used to reconstruct the route
A video joins selected viewpoints and can remove junctions, pauses and wrong turns. The viewer should not attempt to rebuild a navigation line from the montage, especially on terrain where a wrong branch can become exposed.
Current mapping, local documentation and an appropriate climbing or route source remain necessary. The lasting value of the episode is experiential: height, changes of rhythm, the limestone environment and the transition from walking to more technical terrain.
