The report records the site at a precise date. It distinguishes what is structurally complete, what remains temporary and what still belongs to temporary protection. This prevents a site visit from being confused with completion of the building.
Returning to initial objectives reveals schedule differences, changed choices and skills acquired. The report becomes an evaluation tool: it shows not only progress but how the project learned from its own constraints.
April 2025 is a dated construction state, not a completion certificate
This report is useful because it slows the project down at a particular date. Instead of compressing years of work, it shows interfaces that are still accessible, temporary conditions, site organisation and the logic of the next operation.
The date anchors the footage as an archive. It does not claim that the building was complete or that every visible assembly had been checked; it creates a reference point that can be compared with earlier and later stages.
Record what will disappear before finishes cover it
Many useful details become hard to locate once a building is closed: service routes, membrane continuity, reservations, fixings, the condition of timber and junctions between components. Photographing or filming those areas before they disappear creates a technical memory that can later support maintenance or repair.
That archive does not replace required professional or regulatory controls. Its value is practical traceability: understanding where something runs, why a detail changed or what may lie behind a finished surface.
An unfinished structure has temporary states the completed house will never have
Loads and load paths evolve during assembly. Some panels or connections are not yet present, and props or temporary bracing can be essential even when the structure appears visually stable.
A mid-build inspection should therefore treat the site as a complete temporary system. “It is standing” is not sufficient evidence that the next phase can safely begin, especially in timber construction where stability, connection quality and weather protection evolve together.
Moisture management starts before the building is weather-tight
The French dossier cites technical guidance on moisture risks before, during and after enclosure. Timber may have been wetted before closing, condensation can occur, and an assembly closed too soon can trap moisture.
The relevant response combines observation, ventilation, drying and, where needed, measurement. The report helps identify exposed areas and the state of the envelope; technical guidance explains why those observations need to be connected to a wider water-management strategy.
A long self-build is a chain of dependent decisions
Changes from the initial drawing can be legitimate when a real constraint, material substitution or better solution appears. What matters is traceability and the effect on structure, weatherproofing, access and future maintenance.
This dated report is valuable because it can show those decisions before they disappear into the finished building. It also makes clear that planning permission, technical rules and visible progress are different layers of control: footage can document what was present, but it cannot certify hidden resistance, waterproofing or compliance by itself.
